WELCOME ON THE IMAGINARY SUBMARINE VIRTUAL MUSEUM WEBSITE
dedicated to submersibles, from toys to science-fiction collector items Warning: ----------
This museum is not a commercial site; none of the items exposed here is for sale. Links to commercial websites are only mentioned for your information and to help hobbyists in their research. “Mobilis in Mobile” receives funding neither from possible visitors’ transactions nor from those websites. Mobilis in Mobile’s policy is hobby-, history- and science-oriented, and it is mainly aimed at all those still nostalgic about an era when we still knew how to dream... This museum is free and does not host advertisements; it is purposefully aimed at the public at large, but “specialists” are invited to enrich it through their remarks, documents and precisions. May they be thanked in advance!
A few sections of this museum are all but in an embryonic state (e.g., prizes) due to a lack of sufficient documentation. The existence of this section leads us to quote a few brands: again, this is purely in the interest of research. Our overseas friends will kindly forgive us for a few repetitions or truisms, especially in the sections dealing with science-fiction, but must bear in mind that on this side of the Atlantic, in France, except for those rehashed products derived from Harry Potter, Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean and such, it is practically impossible to get the models or collector items that constitute parts of this museum: the only sufficiently-stocked resources are the English, American or even Japanese commercial sites... and a solid network of correspondents established over the years! "the subcommittee" website relate all activities of real and dreaming submarines. Any contributions or remarks from their part would therefore be welcome. Items are shown with a “rarity rating” from zero to five stars. This rating essentially applies to the French market of S.-F. collector items and for complete toys, in good general condition but “as is” (unrestored). The letter preceding the *** rating indicates the country where the model was originally made (ex.: F = France). The ratings include the following factors: 1) Price as recorded at shows, shops and galleries visited in over 10 years; 2) Frequency of exposed toys (rare or common); 3) Price as recorded at sales; 4) Coverage in specialized press; 5) Articles about the item in the biography given at the end of the visit.

The museum letter N°4 - February 2010 |

Over 200,000 visitors in 2010: the network is spreading! We now have correspondants in Argentina, Mexico, Morocco, Thailand and Spain: all of them mad about subs! The museum is reaching its mature state, with more than half the world production of toy submarines. As for science-fiction, this year will see us reaching a decisive stage with the arrival of the Atragon, the Nautilus from " Nadia: the secret of blue water ", the Flying Sub, the Argonaut and many more. We are going to open two more sections, one dedicated to the SF subs' sempiternal companions: giant squids and octopuses, in liaison with the Virtual Institute of Cryptozoology, as this author is co-writing a book with Michel Raynal, the driving force behind this institute; also an exchange and ads market for fans of " underwater " adventure... Moreover we are developing our work with " SOS Vintage, " restorers of old toys; we have reorganized the technical area, where you can find a list of links to friendly websites; also a small tour of the Île-de-France region where the museum is located: where on Earth is Magny-le-Hongre? In the Seine-et-Marne department, about 30 miles east of Paris, where Euro-Disneyland can also be found. There is a " true " Nautilus 5mn away by car... Finally, our objective this year is to get our hands on a few ultra-rare specimens: the DSV Seaquest and the model of the 1961 Mystery Island Nautilus. You wouldn't happen to have plans...? |
