A CONCISE BIBLIOGRAPHY OF THE HISTORY OF TOY SUBMARINES
There are no books dedicated to toy submarines as such other than the one Fabrice Mestrot is writing (2008? 2009?); an abundant bibliography about toy boats – including submarines – is available, but you have to look for it! These are often limited issues, sometimes self-published, or luxurious editions.
Where to find them?

The genre’s pionneer is Ray Harryhausen, well-known for its frame-by-frame animations in sword-and-sandal movies like “”Jason and the Argonauts,” “The 7th voyage of Sinbad,” etc., he is also the creator of the special effects in “It Came from Beneath the Sea” and especially Cy Enfield’s “Mysterious Island” in 1964. A must-read.

- “Vie du Jouet” used to be an important source of information and resources (auctions, quotations, ads, an issue was even dedicated to the JEP Nautilus). Unfortunately this magazine disappeared and was replaced by “Chineurs et Colllectionneurs,” the “toys” section of which is, alas, much less furnished...

-Lucien Ades published in his time recorded stories adapted from the French version of Disney movies (song, music, narrative text). That series of course included that about 20000 Leagues under the Seas.

As a conclusion, I invite you to read what is in my mind the best “undersea” novel since Jules Verne: Arthur C. Clarke’s “ The Deep Range”. 1973 Albin Michel for the French translation.
